Welcome!

I wanted to begin my very first blog with some sort of pithy humor; something to really make you laugh. I think you need to get to know me a little bit though first, before you discover how funny I am. I have to constantly remind people that I am, in fact, funny. My humor doesn’t always catch on. I’m not sure why.

On the Cue Cards page, I wrote that the ongoing work involved in having a full life is to constantly cue those around you as to what you want, what you need and who you are. It’s a daily process that happens from the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep. It sounds like a lot of work, but really, it just takes making a habit of it…and of course…a healthy dose of confidence. Before that can even happen though, we have to discover who we really are. How can we cue others into who we are, if we don’t even know? The best way I’ve found to do this, is to simply make a list. I’m a list person, it will eventually make you all crazy. I apologize in advance.

This is my “who I am” list. It includes “Things I love” and “Things I don’t Love”.

Writing this list was more therapeutic than I could have imagined, and it gave me the confidence (along with many, many other things and a lot of time) to really start to use my cue cards, and to finally be the person I truly love.

Things I love:

  • my family, including the Bean, my Sweetheart and his Pumpkin along with my extended family
  • my friends, who are like my family
  • Being active: Yoga, Running and Biking bring me so much joy! Ahh!
  • Food. I love to cook it, smell it, eat it, have it made for me and learn to ways to make it.
  • Reading
  • Swimming and Coloring with the Bean
  • Red wine. I’m not a snob. Good wine doesn’t have boundaries.
  • Dogs. Woof
  • Traveling: must go to: Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Napa Valley, Bali, Victoria British Columbia
  • Dressing up for a dinner date
  • Not having any weekend plans once in awhile…and spending an entire day reading cookbooks while I watch reruns of, well…you’ll get to know my T.V. vices soon enough!
  • Human Resources. I’m a business geek
  •  Singing in my car to good music…or in my kitchen…outside…anytime really. Good music is like good wine, no boundaries
  • Jinxing someone…you know, when you say the same thing at the same time
  • Physical touch
  • The smell of old books
  • The idea of “Happily Ever After”…not in a storybook way…but in a watching our grandchildren grow up together no matter what way
  • Going to the movies
  • Quotes, this too will drive you crazy. I LOVE quotes!
  • Really…good…C-o-f-f-e-e
  •  The summer Olympics and the Tour De France
  • Dive bars with a good jukebox selection
  • Inside Jokes (Leonard, The Hatchet, Socks, Smack It Baby, Features/Benefits and Knock Knock are some of my favorites!)
  • Routine, for the most part
  • The giant chicken story…haven’t laughed so hard in my entire life…well, until the monkey story came out! More on this later.
  • Dresses, shoes and necklaces
  • Learning that “No.” is a complete sentence
  • Can cozies
  • Chips and salsa with a salty margarita
  • Flourless chocolate cakes with caramel and sea salt…sigh
  • Crying

Things I do not love:

  • Small talk with acquaintances
  • Dishes
  • Folding Laundry
  • Knowing the Bean does not need me as much anymore
  • Raw Onions and Olives
  • Drama created by the person complaining about it
  • Creek Tubing. I’ve really tried. I’m just a chicken and, it’s cold.
  • Over-stimulation right away in the morning
  • The winter Olympics
  • Not having a brother or sister…or anyone I look like
  • Watching people smell things…unless it’s food or a drink…or a plant of some kind
  • Weakness/insecurity and all the issues that stem from it. I don’t like when I feel it or when I see it in others
  • Control games being played with me or especially towards people I love
  • Cell Phones: feeling overly available to everyone in the world…OR…knowing you should be able to get a hold of someone but not being able to. I know…totally contradicting
  • The inability to commit to a plan
  • TV, for the most part. I have some vices though
  • Fear…of anything, but mostly the fear I have concerning love
  • Shopping for jeans
  • Lies
  • Crying

So, basically these are the topics that Cue Your Life will revolve around. I hope that the lessons I’ve learned and the journey those lessons take me on will both inspire you and make you laugh.

What does your list look like?
