By nature, writing a blog is a very self-centered idea. It has to be. This does not mean blog authors are selfish, and it is not to say we are self-centered. Quite the opposite really, blogs can be very inspirational and helpful to other people…and the best one’s are just that. Most of the time, we use our life, our story, our goals and our interests to inspire and educate others.

This is my blog: this is what I do, what I eat, how I exercise, who I know, what I like, what I have for goals…and on and on. For me, writing about what I know is all I can do, but sometimes can seem very self-centered. I marvel at fiction writers, who can develop stories in their minds, and the characters that go along with those stories. When a male author writes a female character perfectly, or a white American woman shows us the life of an orphaned Nigerian refugee…I just think, “Wow, I wish I could do that!”

Anyway, today I wanted to step as far away from myself as I could, while still writing the post myself. That said, I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite blog authors. These gals are so amazing, so unique, and so honest in their writing in such a charming way. I plan on giving you a list of my fave’s at least once a month, there’s so many out there!

Watch out though…you too could become addicted!

Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point. Caitlin is the most honest writer I have come across. No. Matter. What. She totally puts herself out there just as she is. Her blog is why I started to love blogs, and eventually, why I started my own. No nonsense, healthy living is what you will find here. Top it off with some serious inspiration…and you’ve got yourself an amazing blog!

Caitlin at Operation Beautiful. Yep, it’s the same Caitlin. She’s a multi-tasker. Operation Beautiful’s purpose is to redefine how we see ourselves: negative self-talk free. Love it!

Teri at A Foodie Stays Fit. Teri picked a great name for her blog, because that’s just what she is…a fit foodie! She’s got great recipes, fun race recaps, serious fashion sense, an adorable pup, and a serious love of fun!

Michelle at The Runner’s Plate. Michelle is a Midwest native, (woot woot) and currently lives in Alaska. She always has gorgeous pictures, yummy recipes, great inspiration to get out and get running, and is always really honest about what is going on in her life.

Kathleen at The Daily Crumb. I love this gal! Her blog is developing at light speed. Every day is more beautiful than the last! She has new recipes all the time, gorgeous pictures, fitness tips, and allows her readers to follow along with goals she sets. Truly inspirational!

The Skinny Runner, who as far as I can tell…shall remain nameless. Holy laugh out loud! SR has the ability to completely laugh at herself AND inspire you to run a marathon…all at once! She loves celebrity gossip, running, is a commercial fisherman AND I’ve seen pictures of her with a shotgun and the wiley pheasant bird. I find her to be completely random, in a totally organized way…and I like it!

These are just a few, but you could spend days on these blogs if you’ve not visited them before.

Happy Wednesday!

Tell me, what led you to start reading blogs? What led you to start blogging?

  1. I started reading blogs because I stumbled across one and I was hooked. It was a way for me to see I wasn’t alone. I started my own because I wanted to contribute, and I wanted to document my story. I’m horrible at keeping a journal, but if I knew there was someone else reading, I figured that would be motivation. The rest is history!

I love your blog and I’ve very glad you started it! I’m learning so much more about living healthy, I’ve got some great recipes, and I’m learning to look at the glass half full. Your optimism is infectious! I also love the pictures BTW. Thanks for blogging and I look forward to reading more in the future!

  2. thanks, jamie 🙂

blogging started as a hobby — really just a way to break up my monotonous day job, but i truly love it and all of the wonderful people i have connected with.

  3. I love the title of this post! So true! I’m a big HTP fan. I like how real Caitlin is. I am also loving Meals and Miles these days.*

  4. I love all these blogs! And of course yours! 🙂 I agree – Blogging is super addicting!

  5. The first blog I ever read was Run Eat Repeat. Monica was so funny and original. I was searching for training tips for running (I was kind of a newbie) and I was hooked. Then I started discovering other blogs and eventually started my own!

  6. I started my blog because I was always taken photos of my recipes and posting them on Facebook. My friends and family were always saying that looks so good so I thought I’d create a place to share all my recipes as well as my race stories. I want to represent Midwestern healthy living blogs since i haven’t seen to many of us gals out there.
