TMP – Days 18 – 20 – Seeking Out Happy

Hey there! Busy, busy week…topped off with some miserable shin-splints. Boo.

Wednesday: Ran/walked with the runners club – 3.5 Miles. Painful. Arg!

Thursday: Rest: Pain, Pain go away…and don’t come back!!

Friday: Another rest day. Seriously, the only thing to do for shin splints is to rest. I thought about swimming…but it’s not happening today.

While a crazy week, and a bit painful…it’s also been really great! Looking forward to next week even more! More on that later!

In the meantime, I had a thought about life the other day. All of us are looking for our “happy”. I’ve been thinking a lot about that, because I’m sure “happy” looks different to different people. What’s the first step though, in anyone’s “happy”? I’ve been asked that multiple times…and I think I’ve come up with a response that can pertain to all of us, no matter what your “happy” looks like. Ready?

If you want something, work for it. If you want something other than what you currently have, work towards change. If you don’t like something that is currently holding you back, work to rid yourself of it. If you’ve experienced immense sorrow throughout your life, work toward embracing the joy that may remain in parts of the experience, and let the rest go. If you have no idea what you want, work to surround yourself with people you admire, those who have the traits that inspire you. See the pattern?

No long-term happiness will come to the passive. Those who feel entitled to joy without work, or those who live as bitter “victims” of their own self-created drama, will never experience what true joy can be.

“Good” things don’t happen to bad people, or to good people. Good things happen to those who set their lives up to receive good things.

Remember though that happiness is just as dependant on how you deal with the bad things, as how often the good things occur. If you make your life an experiment in joy, and consistently work toward that joy, the good will come, and the bad will be tolerable.

Life is not a passive experience. Life is an active process.

Find your joy. Enjoy the journey.
