Goals for 2013

Happy Holidays!

Cue Your Life has been pretty silent this year. I’ve hunkered down a couple of times to try to remedy that, but am always hit with, “where do I even start?”

2012 was a year of change. My job changed, my schedule changed, some of my interests changed, my friend’s lives all changed, the way I see the world changed, I changed. I am still me…just, more me, than ever. It’s a good thing.

To sit down and recap the year would be…overwhealming. So, I’ve decided not to recap, but instead start fresh. Fresh with my 2013 goals.

My 2012 goals were somewhat met, and somewhat not met.

  • I have definitely learned more about eating a whole-foods diet. I have also learned that this does not necessarily mean a healthy weight. More on that soon.
  • I have read some really amazing books this year. Certainly not two per month as I hoped, but some keepers for sure! One the top of that list: Wild by Cheryl Strayed. This is a memoir I truly couldn’t put down. After a tremendous loss, (that had me shedding crocodile tears on an airplane, to the point where the gal next to me asked if I needed anything) Cheryl makes choices that absolutely wreck the life she has left. In an attempt to start fresh, she makes the completely uneducated decision to hike the Pacific Crest Trail that begins (on her trip) in Southern California and ends near Mt. Hood, Oregon…where I’ve actually taken a picture at the trail marker! I found Cheryl to be honest, adventurous, completely insane, and open to change and criticism in a very unique way. The reviews are mixed, but I absolutely fell in love with Cheryl and her hike on the PCT.
  • On a fitness level, I PR’d on my 5K coming in just over 28 minutes. No other PR’s, but I feel strong and fit!

As far as my 2013 Goals go, I am still working on putting together what I really want to commit to…but so far I’ve come up with the following:

  • Strength Train 4 times per week. I’ve shown myself that I can run long distances, but have realized that my body is not changing at all. I’ve hit a plateau and need to do something about it.
  • Increase my food/drink self-control. Pulling out the honesty card, I am awful when it comes to food/drink self-control. More on this later, but a goal in the new year is to work on this!
  • On that note: COOK breakfast daily. Even if it’s just an egg on an avocado or something. Processed yogurt and coffee does not a balenced breakfast make.
  • Obtain a Personal Record in both the 5K and 10K distances.
  • Shamelessly read a stack of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult books that I’ve been too embarrassed to open. (Dixie recently gave me a Nook Color…so now no can see what I’ve got pulled up. Hehe.)
  • Show 1 act of kindness to a complete stranger every week. This could include buying the coffee order behind me, allowing someone to cut in line, pointing out a beautiful outfit, or anything else that is purely for kindness sake.
  • Have fun with more outdoor activities. We live in a gorgeous place! I want to spend more time outside, enjoying it both alone (with the family!
  • Continue learning as much as I can about the Staffing and HR industries, and increase my sales and educational skills.

I’ve also been working on my Age Bracket List goals…and have checked a few off in the last 4 months! I will fill you guys in on a couple of those in the future!

The hard part for me about goal-writing for the New Year is that…I feel very fulfilled right now. Work is great, the Bean, Sweetheart, Pumpkin and The Sweet Boy are all wonderful, my family is healthy and happy, my friends are all doing well and growing their families, I’m happy with where I know I am going in fitness. Things are good. It’s a nice way to round out the year! I am truly blessed.

I wish the same blessings, health, happiness, and joy to you in the New Year. It doesn’t always come easily. Sometimes these things can seem to be out of reach, a million miles away, or things that maybe other people just get to have. They are not though…you just have to go find them.
